Hi, I’m Sandy and welcome to Sweet Home Living! My husband and I started this blog to showcase home and garden ideas and inspiration. Like many homebuyers we went into our first home with dreams…and a little bit of stubbornness. Heading into the purchase, we knew what we would like to have done within the first major project: the Kitchen.
A bit of back story here is that we moved to a small town in Pennsylvania, Lansdale, from a more sunny destination: Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Shopping in Florida to Pennslyvania is quite a different in architecture and home styling. Many homes in Florida offer ranch set-ups (single flooring), whereas Pennsylvania offers many New England and Colonial type housing. This all comes with the terrifitory as PA offers a rich American history, and Florida, particularly South Florida is a place that is somewhat newly developed.
Here’s a look into our journey!

This is us! (Lansdale, PA)
I’m the daughter of a handyman
My husband always says that I’m pretty darn handy. Knocking down walls, installing shelving, and painting are tasks I’m willing to undertake. Todd on the other hand, he’s a bit clumsy, but he’s has his own strengths too!
Ryobi tools are our friends
One of the neat things about Ryobi tools is that you can swap the battery in and out of each tool they offer and they mostly take the same battery system. We have a bunch of Ryobi tools and we used them, like this saw, to help take down walls! Note: we had damage to the window wall here and had to essentially remove the whole wall! (this cost us an arm and a leg to get up to code)
Our kitchen is from IKEA
We know what you are thinking: IKEA isn’t that great for cabinetry and kitchen remodeling. We proved everyone wrong by choosing IKEA and we were able to get a perfect kitchen setup that fits our lives.
Be creative with your space!
We noticed that there was plumbing hanging from the wall and we would have had to build around the piping. We had the best idea to actually turn this space into a pantry which helped hide the piping and give us that extra storage space we got rid of knocking down other walls!
Our Kitchen is finished…for now
A home always requires projects. This is something as a first time home owner we know that we have to live with…and we are totally fine by that!
